People from the United States do not need a visa to travel to Ecuador. When you stamp the entry stamp in your passport, you are being granted a tourist visa with a maximum of 90 days of stay, either entering by land or by air. However, the passport needs to be valid for at least six months from the moment of your arrival.

You can apply for a tourist visa before traveling to Ecuador. The validity of this visa is ninety (90) days as minimum and one hundred and eighty (180) days as maximum in a period of twelve (12) months from the date of entry into the country.

If you miss the days granted, when you leave the country, you will not be allowed to re-enter for a period of 9 months.

In case you come here to Ecuador as a tourist, and want to buy a property, you do not have to be an Ecuadorian resident to do it. Investing in a property, $ 25,000 or more, makes you automatically an investor, and a residence visa can be automatically granted after you have met all the requirements.
